Meditation and Prayer Can Be a Powerful Tool to Change Your Life
Meditation can be a type of prayer in which a person uses a mantra (a word or sound) that they focus on in order to help clear the mind, making room for new thoughts. It is also possible to use meditation to open the mind so that more of it can be used. This allows old karma to be cleared out and more mindful thinking to be possible. During meditation, prayer can also be incorporated.
One type of meditation is where an individual simply sits quietly and a mantra is said repeatedly. A mantra is simply a word or phrase that one can chant, either internally or out loud, as an object of their meditation. These mantras are often used to help redirect one's mind back to the present in order to keep one focused on the present rather than getting absorbed in thoughts and concerns regarding everyday life. Another type of meditation would be to just sit quietly while repeating an inspirational spiritual verse or prayer.
Just like we bathe or shower each day in order to keep our bodies clean, meditation can provide a type of shower or internal cleansing for one's spiritual self. Twenty minutes each day can be a good time frame to spend meditating, although even spending 5 minutes per day can increase a person's life span.
Many people claim that they do not have time to spend meditating; however, meditating can actually add more years to your life.
For those who want to learn how to meditate, just sit in a position that you find comfortable, you can use a chair that is comfortable, but it is not necessary that you twist your body into a position that you find difficult or uncomfortable. In fact, it is not even necessary that you cross your legs and sit in a lotus position; comfort is essential because it will allow you to meditate more effectively and for a longer period of time. A quiet room is helpful, incense and candles can be a nice touch, if you like; however, even if you have kids and the TV is blaring and others are carrying on with their day-to-day activities in the house, it is still possible for you to sit in the midst of the chaos and noise and effectively meditate. Once you are in your meditation, it will block out this noise and distraction. Another thing that many people have discovered is that if you meditate while lying down, it can help you to fall asleep.
