Psychic Tools: Learning The Art of Lucid Dreaming

If you have the ability to experience a lucid dream, your senses can come alive in a very exciting way. Lucid dreaming can be best described as having the ability to have conscious awareness during a dream. Some people who have the ability to lucid dream are able to observe and explore psychic activity which is not available to them in an ordinary state of conscious.

There are two types of lucid dreams: "dream-initiated" lucid dreams and "while-awake" initiated lucid dreams. The first occurs when a dreamer is in the thick of a dream. While asleep, they realize that they are in a dream, and not in reality. This realization is usually (but not always) started by a dreamer’s observance of an improbable event such as meeting someone from your life who is deceased.

While-awake initiated lucid dreaming, on the other hand, starts when the dreamer is in a conscious state and intentionally enters into a controlled dream state through concentration, meditation and relaxation. Thus, having an awake-initiated lucid dream is in many ways very similar to entering a controlled trance or state of consciousness.

Primary to lucid dreaming is superlative dream recall. The more dreams you recall also provides more experiences to sort through; which might give clues to other aspects of your life. You can effectively learn how to do this in a simple manner. The most common practice is to keep a dream journal by your bed. Upon wakening from a dream, recall as many details as possible and write them down. Do this on a daily basis. Review your dreams, looking for patterns in the ways that you dream. This will assist you in being aware of when you are dreaming and allow you to become an active participant in your dreams.

Lucid dreams reach varying levels of realness depending on your level of self-awareness. On the most basic level, you may dream lucid without having any sort of control. At this level you are aware that you are in a dream, but have no ability to control dream. However, even though you may only be not be able to control the dream and a more or less a passive observer, it doesn't necessarily mean that you won't be able to experience psychic visions or other paranormal phenomenon.

The next level of lucid dreaming involves learning how to exercise control over or even engineer your dreams. This tends to be a lot easier for those who can learn to master while-awake initiated lucid dreams. While for some mastering this skill comes naturally, you can also learn it through practice and focused relaxation techniques such a meditation.

What is the reason for lucid dreaming? If you are aware you are dreaming you can take control of your dreams and anything is possible in your dream world. There are opportunities for adventure, working out problems, visiting those passed on, as well as the potential to turn around a nightmare. As it is with any spiritual journey, you must be patient, dedicated and willing to practice.
