Psychic Tools: Scrying
Scrying is an ancient form of divination used by psychics to gain information by connecting to the spirit realm. With the practice of scrying, a psychic gains their information by peering into a clear or translucent surface which aids the psychic by helping them tap into their higher consciousness.
Scrying is a visual process and analysis of the reflections of objects. The most effect tools of scrying are reflective surfaces or translucent objects; such as water, polished stones, crystal balls and mirrors. It derives its meaning from the Old English word, “descry”; which means “to catch sight of” or “to reveal”.
The practice of scrying dates back thousands of years and was practiced by Romans, Greeks, Arabs, Magi, Celtics and, later in history, by North and South American Indians. There is a great deal of historical evidence that suggests that scrying was used to find answers, solve problems, locate lost items, and find vision of the future. Paintings on the walls of Egyptian tombs depict water scrying. Perhaps the most famous of all scryers is the French prophet, Nostrademus who recorded his use of scrying in his famous prophecies of the 15th century. His medium was water lit by candlelight. After acknowledging the presence of a deity, he would gaze into the water until the prophecies came to him.
The process of scrying invokes visions by peering into a reflective object in a meditative trance. The scryer begins by allowing themselves to experience a state of free association with the images they perceive. In some cases, individuals will speak out-loud to enhance their meditative state. In the end, the images the scryer sees can tell a story, like a conscious dream. With time and practice, the images take relevance and can provide answers to questions or enlightenment.
Scrying is still commonly used by many psychic readers today. Few modern day scyers use the crystal balls which were stereotyped in old movies and carnival sideshow posters. Instead, water is now one of the more popular methods for scrying. In this case, the water is blessed and lit by candle light. If a crystal ball of glass or quartz is used, it is charged by the light of the moon. Scrying mirrors are also commonly used which are generally dark and commonly made out of reflective or luminescent substances. Lastly, polished stones or gems may be considered magic and can be used for scrying. One commonly used stone is black obsidian, which is volcanic glass.
As a psychic tool, the art of scying can be learned through focused concentration and practice if one has the ability to tap into their psychic consciousness. Not everyone has this gift, but for those who do, the possibilities for enlightenment, visions and answers to questions can be endless.
